Donate to Habitat for Humanity

We build because we believe that everyone, everywhere, should have a healthy, affordable place to call home. More than building homes, we build communities, we build hope and we build the opportunity for families to help themselves.

Your donation will help families break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. With an affordable, stable home families have more to spend on food, medicine, child care, education and other essentials. Your support can help us do more in all the many ways that Habitat builds.

Sell or Donate Land to Habitat for Humanity

A huge challenge in keeping our homes affordable is finding property on which we can build houses. There are so many deserving families who apply to be homeowners, but there is only so much land available to us. We need help to find the next property to build a house for a very deserving family. Private owners, government land – we are open to creative thinking! Whether you own property or know of someone who may be willing to help, talk to us. We investigate all possibilities.

What type of property are we seeking?

The most affordable property to build on is a lot on a public road with access to utilities. However, we are willing to explore any possibilities. Talk to us.

I own a small piece of land, but it may not be buildable.

Most municipalities are willing to work with Habitat in granting variances that would not be available for standard development. Talk to us.

What if the property already has a building on it?

We have rehabbed several homes or in some cases demolished and built new. Talk to us.

Why should I donate land to Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity?

The most fundamental reason is the feeling of contributing to less fortunate families in building a stable life within the community. There are also significant tax advantages for donating land. Talk to us.

I want to help, but I need to get some money for the property.

If you are willing to sell the property at a price below market value, you will be eligible for a tax deduction. Talk to us.

Home Sponsorship with Southeast Habitat for Humanity

With generous help from our sponsors, Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity can create positive changes for our partner families. A home sponsorship represents one of the most visible investments that you, your organization, or corporation can make. The initial investment of time and materials will pay lifetime dividends for the entire community.

In addition to time and materials support, there are many other opportunities for a home sponsor to have a positive impact for our partner families. The finishing touches such as landscaping, fencing, utilities, or garbage collection can provide an enormous boost for our partner families and make their transition to their new home feel complete.

A Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity home sponsor agrees to a few basic responsibilities including:

  • Providing financial support toward the construction of a house. Partial and full sponsorships are available. (The cost of a full-home sponsorship is $80,000.)
  • Encouraging members of you company/organization/church to volunteer at the sponsored home and see tangible results of their efforts. Working with Habitat has proven to be an excellent team-building exercise.
  • Staying involved with the project from beginning to end, including site preparation, construction, home dedication, and family move-in.

Contact Marcie at to learn more about our home sponsorship program.

Employer Matching Gifts

Ever wish you could make your gift dollars go twice as far? You can – through your company’s matching gift program. Thousands of companies, small and large, have matching gift programs which double or even triple individual, tax-deductible contributions made by their employees. Your employer may too! Some employers will even make a donation to a nonprofit when their employees volunteer at organizations like Habitat.

The process is simple: see this partial list, companies that match donations, or ask your employer if they have a matching gift program. If so, obtain a matching gift form from your employer. Send the form filled out along with your contribution to:

Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity

Matching Gifts

P. O. Box 4428
Portsmouth, NH 03802-4428

We will complete the form and submit it to your employer.  It’s as easy as that! Your gift and your company’s matching contribution will help SENH continue our mission of developing and uplifting families and communities in addition to constructing houses.  You can help make a difference – one house and one family at a time! Talk to us.

Establish Planned Giving for Habitat for Humanity

“I’ve done well, and I want to leave something for my community when I’m gone.”

That is what Joseph Halley told his children. In 2004, when Mr. Halley passed, he bequeathed a truly life-changing sum of money to Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity. His donation enabled the affiliate to buy land in Farmington and build three affordable homes. Those homes now house three local families who would otherwise be in substandard or poverty housing situations. Those homes are now safety, security and a future for twelve children and their parents. And there is a sign at the entrance to that neighborhood that reads “Welcome to Joseph Halley’s Dream.” His dream will stand strong for 100 years.

Since 1990, Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity has been building homes in partnership with deserving families and transforming New Hampshire communities. We are committed to providing families with safe, decent homes and neighborhoods which contribute to the social and economic fabric of the community.

Habitat homes provide children and families the stability they need to thrive and the means to create multigenerational wealth. They provide the community with homeowner-occupied neighborhoods with lower crime, better schools, and tax income for improved city services. Your support is needed to continue this important work.

You can make a lasting difference in your community by making a planned gift to Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity. Planned gifts enable our affiliate to develop bold strategies for the future and take advantage of opportunities to make the greatest impact. As you plan for your future and reflect on the legacy you will leave behind, consider the following ways you can strengthen Southeast New Hampshire families and communities through a partnership with Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity.

Giving Made Easier: New Law Encourages Increased Donations

Under a new law, commonly referred to as H.R. 4, each person over the age of 70½ with an IRA (Traditional or Roth) can make contributions to charities directly from his or her IRA up to a total of $100,000 per year without incurring income tax.

This contribution will also count against your minimum required distribution amount for the year. A qualified charitable distribution does not result in income to the donor and does not count against your adjusted gross income limitation. Therefore, you deduct the contribution regardless of whether you have maximized your charitable giving for the year.

As a 501 (c)(3) organization, Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity is an eligible recipient of these gifts. Won’t you consider making a life-changing difference for a family in need with a gift from your IRA? For more information on making a donation, please call Southeast NH Habitat for Humanity at (603) 433-9555.

Why support Habitat financially?

Habitat homes are so much more than just walls and a roof. They represent hope to hard-working, local families in need. They represent stability, security, and peace of mind. But did you know that homeownership doesn’t just affect parents? It greatly affects their children and the community in general in real, tangible ways proven statistically in many national studies.

  • The children of homeowners do better in school and are more successful later in life.
  • Homeownership acts as a powerful economic stimulus, benefiting the individual homeowner and the national economy.
  • Homeownership benefits neighborhoods, providing economic and social capital. Homeowners are more likely to participate in local organizations, and homeownership in distressed communities raises neighborhood property values by a significant amount.
  • Homeowners state that they are more satisfied with their living situation than renters.

Homeownership Benefits Children

  • Children of homeowners (vs. families who rent), score better on academic achievement tests. (Haurin, Parcel, 2000).
  • Children of homeowners have a 25% higher high school graduation rate. (Homeownership Alliance of Nonprofit down payment Providers).
  • Children of homeowners are 116% more likely to graduate from college. (Homeownership Alliance of Nonprofit Down Payment Providers).
  • Children of homeowners have a 13-23% higher quality of home environment (Haurin, Parcel, Haurin 2000).
  • Children of homeowners are 50% more likely to have jobs, and less likely to rely on welfare. (Harkens and Newman 2003).

Benefits for the Community

  • Homeowners have higher rates of participation in community organizations, such as clubs, neighborhood associations, and religious institutions, than renters. Homeowners also have higher rates of direct political participation and have a greater awareness of local political officials.
  • Homeowners tend to move less often and stay longer in their neighborhood, promoting stability.
